words.

i love letters.

words of love
         encouragement
         adoration
         truth.

words that fill me with joy
                   and happiness
                   and positivity
                   and warmth.

letters have been a source of encouragement in my life for a while.
this source of encouragement has become even more special in my life  since coming to college.
i check my mailbox daily.
emptiness makes me sad.
school newsletters bore me.
letters make me ecstatic.

i don't know what it is about words that makes me so joyful.
i guess it is that words come from the heart.
they are the overflow of emotion.
they mean something.

luke 6:45 says that the mouth speaks of what the heart is full of.
i believe the same goes for what the hand writes.

words build up.
      fill up.
      lift up.

words edify.
words define.
words enlighten.

but words can be painful.

words can tear down.
words can crush.
words can pierce.

words can cause pain.
                sadness.
                anger.

i have learned that the words that i speak tell a lot about where my heart is at.

are my sarcastic remarks a result of a friend letting me down?
are my hateful comments because of a bad day i am having?

it is when the words come out that i am forced to truly look at the shape of my heart.
when i have no other choice but to deal with the things that darken my heart.

i use my voice a lot.
i speak many words throughout the day.
i pretty much never shut up.

because of this, i have to constantly keep myself in check.
is what i am saying positive?
is what i am saying coming from a place of love?
is what i am saying going to lift this person up?

words are good.
they are strong.
they hold power.

use them wisely.

use words to tell people how much you cherish them.
use words to tell funny stories and jokes.
use words to connect with people.

words are wonderful.
words are lovely.

words make up letters.

so write a letter.
send it to someone who is on your heart.

or send me a letter.
let me know how you are doing.
draw me a picture.
write out a verse.

go ahead.
          make my day.
